On Friday, March 13, the MSBA CLE program will present the 2009 Minnesota Business Torts Deskbook Seminar (including the fully searchable Deskbook on CD ROM).
I will be presenting on my chapter, Credit and Collections, which focuses on the Truth-in-Lending Act, the Fair Credit Reporting Act, the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, and the Minnesota usury statute.
There have not been major developments in these areas, with the arguable exception of the TILA, under which Regulation Z has been amended with most changes to take effect in October, 2009.
Areas not covered in my chapter but related in which there have been significant changes: Minnesota law regarding mortgage origination and foreclosure. Given our current economic climate, however, even these changes are mere sideshows next to the mainstage of radically altered economics and, consequently, dramatic changes to business practices and conditions.
