Mikael Merissa was born in Lalibella, Ethiopia. He grew up in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia and Abidjan, Ivory Coast. He is a 1994 graduate of Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota, and received his Juris Doctor from William Mitchell College of Law in Saint Paul, Minnesota in 2003. During law school, Mike worked at the American Civil Liberties Union of Minnesota where he pursued First Amendment, immigrant rights, prisoner rights and other civil rights matters.
Since beginning his law practice in 2004, Mike has successfully represented hundreds of individuals and businesses in a variety of settings. Mike practices in the areas of immigration, criminal defense, civil litigation, family law and business transactions. Mike became a proud citizen of United States in 2000, but as a fluent speaker of French and Amharic, he also considers himself a citizen of the world who offers a unique perspective, along with creative and vigorous advocacy, to his clients.
